I am 21 years old, and ten days away from turning 22.
I am also ten days away from entering the final semester of my undergraduate career.
When does growing up stop, when do you finally feel "grown"?
All my life I've been looking forward...looking forward to the future, looking forward to going to college, living on my own, graduating, getting a job as a teacher, getting married, having children, etc.
It is important to look forward, but I forget to enjoy the present.
To live in the moment.
Today is January 1st, 2010.
I have set two New Years Resolutions.
My personal resolution is to live in the present, and to enjoy the simple things in life.
My professional resolution is to soak up all I can and learn as much as possible from my student teaching. I want to enjoy, treasure, and become a better teacher and person from this experience.
Each day I will involve a quote, one that I can relate to my life.
I recently read an article by a man named Michael Robbins and he writes;
"Being a real fan of someone means that we focus on what we appreciate about them. It means we look for the good in them and are willing to let them know these things in a loving and generous way. It's essential that we acknowledge them without agenda, or because we want something in return. Acknowledgments with an agenda are manipulations, not acts of true appreciation. Being a real fan of someone else is about celevrating them, recognizing their value, believing in them and reminding them of their greatness."
I want to treat people like that. I want to treat my friends like that.
Most importantly, I want my students to feel that I truly am their biggest fan.
